Making a Thesis Statement for Essay #2
For this essay, your thesis statement will be about which article from the set you are working with is the most credible. Review your Compare/ Contrast Chart and Assessing Bias worksheet to determine which article you will be arguing is the most credible.
Your thesis statement should be one sentence. It should state which article is the most credible and why, using one reason from the list below:
It uses the most credible sources.
It is the most unbiased of the three articles.
It gives information on both sides of the issue.
It gives information about experiences of people most impacted by the issue.
It gives the most background information on the issue.
It does the most thorough job covering the issue it is reporting on.
Your thesis statement should follow this structure:
Out of the three articles, the article “(name of article)” from (source) is the most credible because it ______________.
Out of the three articles, the article “Change Your Diet to Combat Climate Change in 2019” from CNN is the most credible because it uses the most credible sources.
You don’t have to highlight your thesis! I just color coded it so that you can see the different components it should have.
In your paper, you will need to prove your thesis using evidence from the articles. You don’t need to prove that the article you are choosing is perfect (you can point out problems with it), but you will need to prove that it is the most credible, with concrete support.
