History and culture

Historical significance can be termed as an evaluation process used to determine what was significant about designated events in the past for example; people, developments and war. Therefore it can be said that historical significance is a way of gauging the importance of an event that happened in the past.

The civil war in America in the year 1861 to 1865 is of historic significance. This critical time in history is recalled as the war fetched unity for all the states of the United States of America. This particular period brought some people to the limelight including the late presidents, Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Jackson. It is during this period that the liberation war against slavery in the southern states was initiated (Rorabaugh, 2007). Consequently this war can be termed as of historic significance to the United States of America. Some aspects of American reconstruction can also be incorporated here as it entails the efforts done to rebuild and reunite USA after the civil war.

The Mesoamerican civilization is also a historic significance. This is a civilization that happened centuries ago. These civilizations are believed to have given rise to the current Americas (Rorabaugh, 2007). Some of today’s developments can be attributed to this age. Although little recorded information about this age, it is of great significance in the origin perspective. Some artifacts of these civilizations including that of the Olmec and Mayans are still traceable. Some of the agricultural practices invented during this age are in use up to date.

The American Revolution is another historical significance. This is the period that occurred in the better half of the 18th century in the North America continent. Most of the continents countries were still under the British colonial rule. This period is reminisced as it brought political freedom to the North American countries. The period is also highly recalled as the birth of the United States of America can be attributed to it.

2-Cultural evolution over the decades

The USA culture has evolved by a great deal over the decades especially between the20th and the 21st century. On the family perspective, between 1900 and 1940s the extended family was embraced by most families. In the 21st century extended families have been dumped by most people. During the 1900s to 1940s most marriages were cultural or religious. A few numbers of divorces were experienced. In the 21st century most marriages are civil and divorces have become so frequent. Gay marriage has also been on the rise in the 21st century (Rorabaugh, 2007).

Transportation has developed over the period. In the period between 1900 and 1909, railroads were the main mode of transport. Water transport was also used widely in this decade both for people and cargo transport. In the 1930 the vehicle industry developed. This resulted in many people using road transport. The air industry also grew by great deal in this period. The elite adopted air transport as a means of transport. During the 2000-2009 transport has experienced a burst with all forms of inventions. Use of speed boats, electric trains, jets has made access to all points globally possible (Rorabaugh, 2007).

The entertainment sector has also experienced a burst. In the 1900s there were relatively few entertainment companies. The media industry was not well developed. Most media houses were owned by the state governments. From 1930s media houses have sprout all over with most being privately owned. The film industry has grown to become the largest in the world.

Generally, all aspects of the USA culture have evolved over time especially with the onset of modern technology.
