Group’s communication

A group is a collection of two or more individuals who interact and work together towards the attainment of common goals. Everyone belongs to a certain organization or a group such as a family, school, company. Groups occur because human beings are social in nature making groups vital assets in the society (Papy, 2004, p. 212). When an individual is a member of a group, he or she learns how to coordinate and corporate with other people in the workplace and the society. Groups also give individuals an opportunity to learn, interact, actively participate, compete, and socialize with each other. The creation of work groups in the work place ensures effectiveness and coordination for maximum productivity.

Group’s communication is a critical aspect in the organization. Groups greatly influence communication in an organization as research indicates that individuals communicate better and clearly when in groups. Good communication skills are essential in building an effective and cohesive group. Good communication occurs when employees or individuals open up while interacting to share ideas or communicate with the aim of achieving an objective. Good communication is encouraged when there is involvement and interaction of individuals and groups during the daily activities of an organization. Proper distribution of information is another attribute of good communication (Robinson, 2008, p. 213).

The performance of a group depends on the communication skills of the group members, which eventually minimizes the risks of organizational problems developing in workplaces. With good communication, groups are able to discuss and analyze problems and come up with good solutions. Good communication also empowers groups to be able to receive information and act accordingly and effectively. When negative information spreads across the organization, the top leaders are able to hear about such news and take remedial measures before the situation gets out of control. It is obvious that group communication is critical for the organization although it has a number of disadvantages. In the case of a situation or an emergency, the decision-making process becomes slow because it takes more than one person to make a decision. The group members of the organization will take more time than expected to argue out the right procedures before coming with a solutions on certain issues. Groups require more time to make decisions since every individual has to participate in the process of making a decision.

Proper communication is important in an organization in order to maintain good relationships between the employees in and the organization. Effective communication enables the top leaders to give feedback to their employees without denting employees’ self-esteem. Proper group communication will ensure that information pertaining certain matters reach the employees without an exaggeration. When employees get positive corrections, they are likely to feel more confident with themselves and work hard toward the achievement the organizational goals (Papy, 2004, p. 223). Employees will also increase their efficiency and learn to trust their leaders whenever faced with challenges.

Groups play an important role in an organization when it comes to decision making and solving of the organizational problems. Decision-making is the ability to choose one appropriate solution when faced with a situation. When an organization has a group in charge of decision-making, then it is likely that they will make the right decisions. When an organization has only one leader, he may fail to make the right choice and create losses to the company. Decision-making is an essential leadership aspect in an organization; this compels majority of organizations to create groups to make sound decisions instead of relying on one leader to make the overall decisions. When the groups make the right decision, the organization will benefit and make more profits. When groups are involved in decision-making, it leads to achievement of better results.

The involvement of a group in decision-making requires compromise since several individuals come up with different ideas on how to solve a certain problem. After solving a problem, the group will be able to identify the quickest and the safest method to eradicate that particular problem. Groups give the best results because they discuss the problem in details before coming up with the relevant solutions (Robinson, 2008, p. 233). Another important role of groups in an organization is teamwork. When an organization has teams, individuals are able to bond and work together as a team. In order for a group to perform better, it is vital to have one leader who directs the other members towards making the right choices. A leader should be aware of all the undertaking in his group and be able to get along with his subordinates.

The team members should be able to work together towards the attainment of the organizations goals. Groups are able to work together in leadership and come up with both long term and short-term plans for an organization. Allocation of duties to different members of the group will make leadership be more effective. When an organization faces leadership tasks, the group forces will solve the problem efficiently and effectively. Another important aspect of groups and leadership is participation. When members of a group indulge in active participation, individuals will have proper bonding between them making the group stronger and the leadership skill sharper. Active participation of groups will enable the leaders understand the positive pressure in leadership. Leadership groups are selective since they only choose individuals with certain positive characteristics. This is an indication that an organization gets the best services because the members of the groups have diverse ideas.

The issues of group attributes associated with groups include the characteristics of the groups, quality of work, and the properties associated with groups. Majority of groups formed in the company often occur for a reason. Some groups form because they are set to solve certain problems in an organization, or to carry out a duty that benefits the company. It is obvious that groups have people from diverse background because the company wants an opinion from various personnel. The company will create a group, which is a representation of every aspect in the society; for example, tribe, religion, and level of education. Various companies formulate their groups in a manner that they find effective and efficient because of the answers or product expected (Jordan & Jordan, 2008, p.143).

Groups might be of different qualities because companies have different sections such as groups formed to facilitate any requirement of the organization. Examples of these groups include the marketing department groups and the information technology groups. It is obvious that these groups have diverse needs and their qualities are extremely different. For example, the information technology groups will require technical resources such as software’s and computers while the marketing group might just need paper, pens and projectors to create marketing strategies. Companies should, therefore, consider issues of group attributes in their organizational strategies. Managers should be able to identify the different attributes associated with each group. This is vital since companies will get accurate and reliable results when assigning groups and investing resources in creating groups.

The group decision-making skills are diverse since various individuals incorporate their ideas when making decisions. Groups have excellent decision making skills because they may have various opinions concerning a similar topic, but apply the decision making process to come up with the best and practical solution for a situation. The groups have excellent skills since the company relies on the research and development group to create innovative products that will boost the sales of the company. When the company appoints a group without decision-making skills, they are set for failure because groups contain experts from various field of the topic.

When groups interact in meetings, their relationship develops because they have to work together for a common goal. In a group meeting individuals interact through introduction sessions, games and retreats to facilitate cohesion (Jordan & Jordan, 2008, p.143). Prior to a session individuals in the group interact effortlessly to choose their leader or to assign a person to chair the meetings. When discussing ideas, group members might differ and argue, although the leader will allow each individual to present his opinion. In case of conflict in the group, individuals explain their issues before any proceedings. Conflict resolution is an issue the group prepares to deal with because it is part of the planning process. Group members should communicate effectively to reduce conflicts in the organization.
