Freedom of most of the things that exist on planet earth is sweet and enjoyable to the parties enjoying the freedom. However, the freedom may have a negative effect if the utilization of freedom has no regulation, or means of control. Free speech should have boundaries or limits. Human beings have inherent characteristic of reacting to emotions and anger in a varying way. This may arise as a result of utterances from specific people of different social status. Considering a politician, the message that a politician delivers in a public gathering triggers a diverse range of reactions from different, independent bodies and individuals. This reaction may be of betterment of the society or disrupting the existing social peace.

Free speech needs a limitation of expression. This involves the time and place of expression of the free speech. At some instances, an individual may decide to express speech that is irrelevant to the place and time of speech need. In such situations, reactions are stimulated from the surrounding human beings. These reactions may have either positive or negative impact on the surrounding with reference to the speech content expressed. Therefore, free speech needs a limitation on expression means adopted.

Regulating the character portrayal of an individual during a speech expression is a cumbersome activity (Stockdale). This occurs since different people behave and have differing perceptions concerning the social things that happen. As such, their behavior may lack the element of the sensitivity of society morality. This is a possibility since most of people have no ability to control themselves on their acts and deeds. Therefore, there is a need of seeking an arm of the law on the level of free speech expression. This measure is a necessity that aids in ensuring that a peaceful coexistence prevails in the society at all times.

Speech that has an element of hatred in it needs to have a boundary. This is a necessity since hate speech has inherent repercussions such as triggering enmity within the social setting and speech deliverers. Hate speech also acts as a form of inciting people to react to a given social, political, or religion problem in unison. In addition, hate speech introduces an element of harm to society. An example of the harm developed by the hate speech is depicted by Westboro Baptist Church when the church waves signs indicating “Thank God for Dead Soldiers” (The Elm). Westboro Baptist Church was triggering a mixed reaction from the public members and society, in general. This had the consequences of labeling of the church and limitation of the church members to pay a visit to some nations, such as Canada.

Speech should also have a limitation when the moral content of the speech is questionable. For example, speech that has characteristics of immoral actions, or vulgar language need a limitation. This is to aid in preventing the destruction of the existing moral standards of the society in which the expression of the speech takes place. Majority of people on planet earth pay a keen attention to the words used within the speech. As such, people tend to learn the meaning of the words and speak in a manner similar to the way expression of the speech took place. This indicates that moral content of a speech is a prerequisite for the social well-being of a given social setting.

Speech with elements of immorality appears quite offensive to the ears of the listeners and the general public members. This may result in social embarrassment. Therefore, to curb this problem, there is a need of limiting this type of speech from taking place. Behavior is trait developed from the content of the speech delivered by an individual or a body of persons. This illustrates that there is a need of speech expression to take place in an acceptable behavior. This limits situations of people learning unacceptable behavioral activities from speech deliverers. The behavior would include use of body parts to trigger certain emotions on the mind of the people. Thus, speech characterized of such situations need limitations of expression in order to uphold the moral standards of a given society.

Speech that has a direct impact of interfering with individual rights needs a limitation. One may not establish a social unit within the vicinity of homesteads and begin using a public system for communication purposes. This takes into consideration the possibility of establishment of a church within homesteads. The church then adopts a public address system as the means of communication. This leads to the creation of a nuisance in the homesteads. As such, the church freedom of speech needs a limitation since not all people are in dire need of that loud noise within the vicinity.

Speech that has intentions of, or results in hurting an individual or the society needs limitation in the way it is expressed. An example of such speech is the political speech delivered by the politicians. A politician from one state may claim that people found in the other state behave in a different way, or an opponent politician is a key element of corruption in the nation. This type of speech results in development of hatred between the two states and the two politicians. The main cause of this hatred is the hurt that opposite parties feels as a result of the delivery of such a speech. To avoid this, there is a need of limiting such a speech from occurring. The speech limitation for politicians is an effective tool for maintenance of democratic equality within a given nation or state. In addition, speech limitation acts as an effective tool of maintenance of liberal values.

The speaker enjoys protection when the content of speech is limited. This occurs since the limitation of the speech prevents any type of harm occurring to the speaker. The speaker knows the limits of expressing the speech in order to achieve success. Pornography is an evil act that arises through speech expression. The act is quite evil and limits perfectibility of the existing human race, in the universe. As such, there is a need of limiting speech content that may have the side effects of conveying pornographic information to the audience.

In conclusion, free speech needs limitation to safeguard the well-being of the social norms and morals. In addition, limitation of free speech is a measure that ensures people coexist peacefully in the society, and speech attains the desired respect.
